Abstract

Purpose of the study: The study aims to conduct an updated bibliometric assessment of the Indian Journal of Animal Sciences (IJAS), which is recognised for publishing empirical research in animal sciences. The main purpose is to provide a better general overview of the journal's publication patterns by analysing its output from 2015 to 2024.

 

Methodology: The paper brings out the bibliometric analysis of the journal titled "Indian Journal of Animal Sciences" for the period from 2015 to 2024. The data were extracted from the Scopus database. A total of 2608 publications published in IJAS are investigated in this study. Data were analysed using Biblioshiny and MS Excel. Furthermore, the data were visualised using Vosviewer software.

 

Findings: The study reveals a downward trend in the number of publications. The journal published 2,608 articles during the 2015-2024 study period. The article is the most common publication type. Dutt, T., is the most prolific author with 54 publications, while the largest number of publications is by joint authors. Most research publications are from India, with 1113 (42.7%), while foreign contributions are much less. The study also indicates that the organisation that contributed the most was ICAR-National Dairy Research Institute, which had 426 publications. The study also revealed the maximum number of citations received in 2020 (a total of 222).

 

Practical Implications: The results will help the IJAS editorial board make well-informed choices regarding the journal's future direction. The paper will also help identify the leading trends in the journal, including publications, authors, institutions, countries, etc. Additionally, they intend to encourage participation and research in animal science.

 

Originality: This study is unique because it provides an exclusive analysis of journal publications from 2015 to 2024 using the Scopus database. Furthermore, it provides a new perspective on the Indian Journal of Animal Sciences.

Dr. Sanjiv Kadyan is the  Professor in the Department of Library & Information Science at Maharshi Dayanand University, Rohtak, Haryana (124001) (INDIA). He has 13 years of teaching experience in the library science field. His major areas of interest are the management of library and information centers, research methodology, electronic resource management, e-learning, and library classification. His 24 papers have been published in national and international journals. He is also the author of many book chapters and the editor of many books.
