The study used a descriptive survey research approach, including 61 librarians from four universities. A total enumeration sampling method was adopted, and data were obtained using a standardized questionnaire that had been validated prior to delivery. Key findings show that librarians are well-versed in cloud-based technology, and their positive opinion and uptake in library practices is encouraging. These data point to a rising embrace of digital transformation in libraries. However, other problems were discovered, including limited technical skills, insufficient infrastructure, excessive expenses, gaps in computing literacy, unstable power supply, and a bad maintenance culture. In conclusion, while librarians have a favorable awareness and view of cloud technology, addressing the issues through specific measures such as infrastructure improvements, policy formulation, and ongoing training is critical for successful adoption. To address difficulties and boost cloud technology adoption, the report proposes investing in library infrastructure, providing ongoing training for librarians, developing ICT polices, and fostering a maintenance culture and facilitate cloud technology adoption. These efforts would position libraries to better harness the benefits of cloud solution and remain aligned to modern trends.
Dr. Efe Francis Ejedafiru festus ogbogbaidi Copyright (c) 2025 Library Waves https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-sa/4.0 2024-12-31 2024-12-31 10 2 122 135 Prison Libraries and their Role in Inmate Reintegration http://librarywaves.com/index.php/lw/article/view/199
This study examines the development of prison libraries in India, the information needs of prisoners, and the role these libraries play in the rehabilitation process. Through an extensive literature review, the study explores how prison libraries provide access to educational, legal, and personal development materials essential for inmate self-improvement and reintegration into society. A systematic review of 45 relevant studies, gathered using the PRISMA methodology, revealed the significant contribution of prison libraries toward fostering positive behaviours, reducing recidivism, and aiding rehabilitation. However, the research also highlights existing challenges, including inadequate funding, censorship, and inconsistent access to resources, which hinder the full potential of prison libraries. The study underscores the need for reforms, such as increasing funding, updating collections, and integrating digital resources to enhance the effectiveness of prison libraries. Despite its limited geographical scope and potential data gaps, this research offers valuable insights into the current state of prison libraries in India and their crucial role in the correctional system. Future research should aim to broaden the scope and incorporate longitudinal studies to evaluate the long-term impact of these libraries on inmate rehabilitation. This study contributes to the existing literature by providing a focused analysis of prison libraries in India, emphasizing their role in inmate rehabilitation. It offers practical recommendations for improving prison library services and highlights the need for increased investment and digital integration to meet prisoners' evolving information needs.
Abhishek Rai Dr. Manendra Kumar Singh Copyright (c) 2024 Library Waves https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-sa/4.0 2024-12-31 2024-12-31 10 2 136 147 A Comparative Assessment of Libraries' Contribution to 21st Century Life Skills in Banaras Hindu University and University of Allahabad http://librarywaves.com/index.php/lw/article/view/212
Libraries have evolved beyond their traditional role as repositories of books to become dynamic knowledge hubs that foster digital literacy, research skills, critical thinking, and professional development. The research aims to understand how these preferences impact their perception and experience of surreal elements in literature. Thematic analysis was conducted on data gathered from six focus groups comprising a total of 36 participants. Findings indicate a predominant preference for movies among both generational cohorts, with Gen Z displaying a stronger inclination towards visual media for its immediacy and sensory appeal. Millennials, while fewer in number, expressed a nuanced appreciation for books, particularly in their ability to stimulate imagination and foster deeper emotional connections through surreal elements. However, overall, the study highlights a declining interest in traditional reading practices, with implications for library services. Participants emphasized that movies provide a seamless visual and auditory experience, contrasting with the perceived effort required for sustained engagement with books. This shift has led to decreased library visits and a preference for digital resources and streaming platforms. Concerns were raised about the potential loss of the immersive and reflective experiences that books uniquely offer, particularly in exploring complex themes and abstract ideas. The study underscores the importance for libraries to adapt to these changing preferences by enhancing digital collections, offering multimedia resources, and creating flexible study environments that accommodate diverse learning styles. Additionally, there is a need to promote reading clubs and activities that reintroduce the joy of reading and foster community engagement among students.
Yadukrishnan T A Copyright (c) 2024 Library Waves https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-sa/4.0 2024-12-31 2024-12-31 10 2 179 190 Evaluating Information Literacy and User Engagement in University Libraries http://librarywaves.com/index.php/lw/article/view/207
This study explores the impact of information literacy on user engagement in digital environments within the university libraries of Utkal University and Sambalpur University in Odisha State.
